Batman Annual #1 Review

CONSENSUS: While Batman Annual #1 isn't required reading for Bat-fans, most critics agreed that it was a entertaining new origin for Mr. Freeze - AND one with fantastic art. However some critics did think that this was an inferior origin to the Mr. Freeze and perhaps isn't worth the $4.99 price tag. The general response is only read if you're interested in Mr. Freeze.

examiner.com: "The wonderful thing about Batman Annual #1 is that you don't have to read previous issues to understand it. It concludes 'Night of Owls' which is a great crossover, but it is not necessarily dependent on a developed storyline. If you can only pick up one comic this week this is the one to get. Especially if you're a fan of the Batman franchise." 100

Inside Pulse: "Snyder or Morrison, I can't tell who is better with the Bat." 90

A Comic Book Blog: "Beautiful art, great story, and cameos by Nightwing and Damian. Annuals aren't always worth it, this one certainly was." 90

Comic Book Therapy: "Even with a $4.99 price tag, Batman Annual is worth your money. Bat-fans won't be disappointed." 80

IGN: "The beats that Snyder and Tynion harp on are certainly nothing new - covering both the desperation of Victor Fries to heal his wife Nora and his ultimate transformation into the villain with a heart of ice - but the story does define the character for the New 52 universe with some new and interesting wrinkles to the origin." 80

Comic Vine: "I've read many Batman annuals over the years. Many have been unremarkable. This Batman annual will be unforgettable." 80

Weekly Comic Book Review: "While it has some redeeming points, it's overall a disappointing effort, especially from a piece of work with Snyder's name attached to a character for which he's become famous." 70
