Avengers vs X-Men #4 Review

CONSENSUS: While many thought that Jonathan Hickman coming on board improved the writing, some are still getting bored of the whole concept. John Romita Jr's art is being thought of as some of his best, but still nothing spectacular. Another thing that annoyed some readers was that the book seemed like an advert for other AvX tie-ins, and things were too quickly glossed over. BUT, if you've been a fan of the series so far, you'll probably like this one.

A Comic Book Blog: "Great story progression, nice tension, twist at the end. Makes us look forward to act 2, John Romita Jr. actually brings some decent work." 96

Blue Raven Comics: "A great read all-round." 90

Science Fiction: "By the end of the book, we've reached that "something big" that I was hoping for in my last review. Jonathan Hickman, who scripted this issue, did a great job of building the suspense up to that moment, and now we have to wait three more weeks to see the results." 85

IGN: "Jonathan Hickman makes his AvX debut in this instalment, and his distinctive voice helps elevate the material." 65

Inside Pulse: "Over half this book feels like it's being used to push other titles, and the rest is just glossed over to literally shove the story forward. It's sloppy." 60

Comic Vine: 60

What Culture!: 60

Major Spoilers: "Avengers vs X-Men #4 is exactly what it says on the package, characters opposing one another, fists flying, and a few bits of character here and there for a decidedly luke warm 4 out of 10." 40

ComicBookMovie: "Overall, this event is extremely shallow, and doesn't have enough action to save itself from being both bad and boring." 40
